It is a laxative for the treatment of chronic constipation in children aged 2 to 11 years and for the treatment of severe constipation (called fecal impaction) in children aged 5 to 11 years.\u003cbr\u003e Movicol Children Chocolate flavour helps your child have adequate bowel movements even if constipation has been going on for a long time.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eWhat you need to know before taking the medicine\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eDo not give Movicol Paediatric Chocolate flavour if your doctor has told you that your child has:\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e - a blockage of the intestine (intestinal obstruction, ileus);\u003cbr\u003e - a perforation of the intestinal wall;\u003cbr\u003e - a serious inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or toxic megacolon;\u003cbr\u003e - an allergy to the active substances or to any of the other ingredients of Movicol Paediatric Chocolate Flavour (listed in section 6).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e If your child has heart or kidney problems, an impaired gag reflex, or reflux oesophagitis (heartburn caused by stomach contents flowing back up into the oesophagus), ask your doctor for advice before giving Movicol Paediatric Chocolate Flavour.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eWarnings and precautions\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e When taking Movicol Paediatric Chocolate flavour you should continue to drink plenty of fluids.\u003cbr\u003e The fluid content of Movicol is not a substitute for regular fluid intake.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003ePossible side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eContact your doctor immediately and stop taking Movicol Paediatric Chocolate flavour if your child:\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e • have a severe allergic reaction that causes difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eVery common side effects (more than 1 in 10 people):\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e • stomach pain;\u003cbr\u003e • stomach rumblings.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eCommon side effects (more than 1 in 100 people but less than 1 in 10 people):\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e • diarrhea;\u003cbr\u003e • vomiting (feeling sick);\u003cbr\u003e • nausea (feeling sick);\u003cbr\u003e • anal irritation (feeling of discomfort around the anus).\u003cbr\u003e If your child is being treated for chronic constipation, the diarrhea usually improves by reducing the dose.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Uncommon side effects (more than 1 in 1000 people but less than 1 in 100 people):\u003cbr\u003e • swollen stomach;\u003cbr\u003e • flatulence.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eRare side effects (less than 1 in 1000 people):\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e • allergic reactions, which may include shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Other reported side effects include:\u003cbr\u003e skin rash, itching, redness of the skin or hives, swelling of the hands, feet or ankles, headache, indigestion, high or low levels of potassium in the blood.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eReporting of side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e If you experience any side effects, including any not listed in this leaflet, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
