In this case, you may need to take aciclovir by mouth (oral).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Avoid treatment for long periods, because it may cause an allergic reaction (sensitization). If this happens, stop treatment immediately and contact your doctor.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003ePossible side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The following side effects may occur:\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eUncommon\u003c\/b\u003e (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): \u003cbr\u003e- transient burning or pain;\u003cbr\u003e - moderate dryness and loss of the top layer (scaling) of the skin; - itching.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eRare\u003c\/b\u003e (may affect up to 1 in 1000 people):\u003cbr\u003e - redness of the skin (erythema);\u003cbr\u003e - inflammatory skin reaction (contact dermatitis), mainly due to the components of the base cream.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eVery rare\u003c\/b\u003e (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):\u003cbr\u003e - allergic reactions manifested by swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing and breathing (angioedema), hives.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eReporting of side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
