Since diarrhea can cause a significant loss of fluids and salts, it is recommended to drink a lot to replace the losses. It may be useful to take aqueous solutions based on sugar and salts.\u003cbr\u003e Do not take this medicine for any purpose other than that intended (see section 1) and never take more than the recommended dose (see section 3). Serious heart problems (with symptoms including a rapid or irregular heartbeat) have been reported in patients who have taken too much loperamide, the active ingredient in DIARSTOP.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eChildren\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e DIARSTOP should not be given to children under 12 years of age.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003ePossible side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Like all medicines, DIARSTOP can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.\u003cbr\u003e Mild abdominal pain and dry mouth have been reported rarely.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data): upper abdominal pain, abdominal pain spreading to the back, tenderness of the abdomen, fever, rapid pulse, nausea, vomiting, which may be symptoms of inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis).\u003cbr\u003e If you experience any of these symptoms, stop using the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eReporting of side effects\u003c\/b\u003e \u003cbr\u003eIf you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
