What is it and what is it for?
Froben Cold, a nasal medicine, provides long-lasting relief from nasal obstruction in colds by constricting the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa (nasal decongestant).
Froben Cold is indicated for adults and children over 12 years of age.
Contact your doctor if you do not feel better after 4 days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Froben Cold
- if you are allergic to the active substance (oxymetazoline) or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you are taking or have taken in the last 2 weeks medicines for depression (antidepressants), such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs);
- if you suffer from an enlarged prostate (prostatic hypertrophy);
- if you suffer from heart disease or very high blood pressure (severe arterial hypertension);
- if you suffer from eye diseases with high pressure in the eye with possible vision problems (glaucoma);
- has high levels of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism);
- has inflammation or damage to the lining of the mouth or the skin around the nostrils.
Do not give this medicine to your child if he or she is under 12 years of age .
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Froben Cold if:
• is 65 years of age or older because you may have difficulty urinating (urinary retention);
• suffer or have suffered in the past from heart and circulatory diseases, for example coronary arteries and high blood pressure (hypertension).
If you have thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate, you should not take Froben Cold unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
The use of Froben Cold may cause temporary discomfort such as burning, itching, sneezing or increased nasal discharge.
Prolonged or frequent use of Froben Cold can be harmful as it can alter the normal function of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, leading to:
- burning sensation or dryness in the nose (sensitization phenomena);
- worsening of congestion symptoms after discontinuation (rebound effect);
- a reduction in the effectiveness or duration of the effect of the medicine (habituation);
- drug dependence: in this case, stop treatment and consult your doctor who will establish an appropriate therapy.
To avoid the occurrence of the conditions listed above, do not exceed the recommended doses and duration of treatment (see section 3).
If symptoms persist or worsen, or new symptoms appear, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
If you do not notice any improvement in the first 4 days with Froben Cold medicine, contact your doctor.
Do not take this medicine by mouth. This medicine can be harmful if swallowed accidentally or if taken over a long period of time in high doses.
Avoid contact of the liquid with eyes.
Caution for athletes : this product contains substances prohibited for doping. Do not use the product in any manner other than those listed, in terms of dosage and route of administration.
Children and adolescents
You should not give Froben Cold to your child if he or she is under 12 years of age.
Froben Cold can have a marked sedative effect if accidentally ingested.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-marketing experience:
- Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
• eye irritation, discomfort or redness;
- Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
• increased heart rate (tachycardia, palpitations);
• slowing of the heartbeat (reflex bradycardia);
• increase in blood pressure;
• insomnia;
• nervousness;
• tremor;
• anxiety, agitation, irritability;
• headache;
• nausea;
• difficulty urinating;
• nosebleed (epistaxis);
• nasal discomfort;
• throat irritation and dry mouth;
• sneezing.
This medicine may cause a burning sensation or dryness in the nose (sensitization phenomena) and nasal congestion with swelling of the mucosa (rebound congestion).
