GLYCEROL PHARMAKOPEA Adults 2250 mg suppositories
Glycerol
What is it and what is it used for?
GLYCEROL PHARMACOPOEIA contains the active ingredient glycerol, which belongs to the class of laxatives, which are medications used to facilitate the expulsion of stool. This medicine is indicated for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
Contact your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 7 days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use GLYCEROL PHARMAKOPEA:
- if you are allergic to glycerol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you suffer from acute or unknown abdominal pain;
- if you have nausea or vomiting;
- if you suffer from intestinal obstruction or narrowing (stenosis);
- if you suffer from rectal bleeding of unknown origin;
- if you suffer from swelling of the blood vessels around the anus (acute haemorrhoidal crisis) with pain and bleeding;
- if he is severely dehydrated.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using GLYCEROL FARMAKOPEA.
If you are elderly and/or not in good health, consult your doctor before using this medicine.
Use medications that stimulate stool expulsion (laxatives) as infrequently as possible and for no more than 7 days. Use of laxatives for longer periods requires a doctor's prescription, after adequate evaluation of the patient's condition.
If you suffer from long-term (chronic) or frequent constipation, always consult your doctor for diagnosis, medication prescription, and monitoring during treatment. Consult your doctor when the need for a laxative arises from a sudden change in previous bowel habits (frequency and characteristics of bowel movements) that lasts more than two weeks, or when laxative use fails to work.
Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water or other fluids a day to help soften your stool when using laxatives.
If you use laxatives excessively, frequently, or incorrectly, you may experience long-lasting diarrhea, resulting in a loss of water, minerals (especially potassium), and other essential nutrients. In more severe cases of abuse, you may experience excessive fluid loss (dehydration) or low blood potassium levels (hypokalemia), which can cause heart or muscle problems, especially if you are taking natural heart-healthy medications (cardiac glycosides), medications that increase urine production and excretion (diuretics), or medications used to reduce inflammation (corticosteroids) while taking this medicine.
Abuse of laxatives, especially contact laxatives (stimulant laxatives), can cause dependence (the need to continually increase the dosage), chronic constipation, and loss of normal bowel function (intestinal atony).
If you experience constipation, first of all correct your eating habits, consuming an adequate amount of fiber and water in your daily diet.
In most cases, a balanced diet rich in water and fiber (bran, vegetables, and fruit) can provide lasting relief from constipation. Many people think they are constipated if they are unable to have a daily bowel movement. This is a misconception, as this condition is completely normal for many individuals. True constipation occurs when bowel movements are fewer than usual and are associated with hard stools. If episodes of constipation occur repeatedly, a doctor should be consulted.
Children
This medicine should not be given to children under 12 years of age.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
