GLYCEROL PIETRASANTA Adults 2250 mg suppositories


What it is and what it is used for
GLICEROLO PIETRASANTA contains the active ingredient glycerol which belongs to the category of laxative medicines.
GLYCEROL PIETRASANTA is used for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.


What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use GLYCEROL PIETRASANTA
- If you are allergic to glycerol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- If you experience acute or unknown abdominal pain;
- In case of nausea or vomiting;
- Intestinal obstruction or narrowing;
- In case of rectal bleeding. Rectal bleeding of unknown origin;
- In case of hemorrhoids with pain and bleeding;
- In a serious state of dehydration.


Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using GLICEROLO PIETRASANTA.
Use laxatives as infrequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use for longer periods of time requires a doctor's prescription after adequate evaluation of the individual case.
Treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires the intervention of a doctor for diagnosis, prescription of drugs and monitoring during therapy.
Laxative abuse can cause persistent diarrhea with consequent loss of water, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential nutrients. In more severe cases of abuse, dehydration or hypokalemia may occur, which can cause cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunction, especially if you are simultaneously taking cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids.
Abuse of laxatives, especially contact laxatives (stimulant laxatives), can cause dependence (and, therefore, the possible need to progressively increase the dosage), chronic constipation and loss of normal intestinal functions (intestinal atony).
If you suffer from episodes of constipation, first of all correct your eating habits by integrating your daily diet with an adequate intake of fiber and water.
If you take laxatives, drink at least 6-8 glasses of water, or other liquids, a day to help soften your stool.

Children and adolescents: Do not give GLICEROLO PIETRASANTA to children under 12 years of age without first consulting your doctor.

If you are elderly or in poor health, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.


Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following are the side effects of glycerol:
Gastrointestinal disorders Isolated cramp-like pain or abdominal colic and diarrhoea, with loss of fluids and electrolytes, more frequent in cases of severe constipation, as well as irritation at the rectal level.
