Naphazoline nitrate + tonzilamine hydrochloride
What is it and what is it for?
Imidazyl Antihistamine contains the active substances naphazoline nitrate which belongs to a group of medicines called decongestants and thonzylamine hydrochloride which belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines.
Imidazyl Antihistamine is used to treat allergies and inflammation of the eye (conjunctiva) accompanied by hypersensitivity to light (photophobia), tearing, foreign body sensation, and pain.
Contact your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 4 days of treatment.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Imidazyl Antihistamine:
- if you are allergic to naphazoline nitrate or thonzylamine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you are allergic to other medicines of the same class as naphazoline nitrate and thonzylamine hydrochloride; in particular xylometazoline, oxymetazoline, tetryzoline;
- if you have a disease due to high pressure inside the eye (narrow-angle glaucoma) or if you have other serious eye diseases;
- if you are taking certain medicines used to treat depression (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) at the same time (see section "Other medicines and Imidazyl Antihistamine");
- in children under 12 years of age;
- during pregnancy and breastfeeding (see section "Pregnancy and breastfeeding").
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Imidazyl Antihistamine:
• if you suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension);
• if you have heart problems;
• if you suffer from excessive activity of a gland called the thyroid (hyperthyroidism);
• if you have high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia, diabetes).
Use of topical medications, especially if prolonged, may cause allergies (sensitization). If this occurs, discontinue use and contact your doctor. Imidazyl Antihistamine is not suitable for treating infections, mechanical (trauma), chemical, or heat damage, or for removing foreign bodies from the eye.
Caution for athletes: this product contains substances prohibited for doping. Do not use in any manner other than those listed, in terms of dosage and route of administration.
Children
Imidazyl Antihistamine is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
Accidental ingestion of Imidazyl Antihistamine, especially in children, can cause toxic phenomena (see paragraph "If you use more Imidazyl Antihistamine than you should").
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The use of the medicine can sometimes cause:
• pupil dilation;
• increased internal pressure of the eye;
• nausea;
• headache (cephalalgia);
• general effects on the body such as:
- increased blood pressure;
- heart disorders;
- increased blood sugar (glucose) levels.
Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity) may rarely occur; if this occurs, stop treatment and consult your doctor.
Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
These side effects are usually temporary. If they occur, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Reporting of side effects
