Carbocysteine
What it is and what it is used for
This medicine contains the active substance carbocisteine, which belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics, used to help clear mucus from the airways.
LISOMUCIL TOSSE MUCOLYTIC syrup with sugar is indicated for the treatment of cough in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory system.
LISOMUCIL TOSSE MUCOLYTIC sugar-free syrup is indicated for the treatment of cough in acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory system, in particular in the case of low-sugar and low-calorie diets (hypocaloric) or in the case of diets with an appropriate intake of calories (normocaloric).
Contact your doctor if you do not feel better or feel worse after 5 days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take LISOMUCIL COUGH MUCOLYTIC
- if you are allergic to carbocisteine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you suffer from a stomach or intestinal problem called active gastroduodenal ulcer;
- in case of pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- if the person who is to take this medicine is a child under 2 years of age (see section “Children”).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking LISOMUCIL TOSSE MUCOLYTIC.
If, in addition to coughing, you experience fever and/or difficulty breathing, contact your doctor who will establish the appropriate therapy.
Caution is advised in elderly patients, asthmatic patients with a history of severe respiratory problems, those with a history of gastroduodenal ulcers or those taking drugs known to cause gastrointestinal bleeding. You should stop treatment with carbocisteine if gastrointestinal bleeding occurs. This medicine should not be used in combination with cough suppressants.
Children
LISOMUCIL TOSSE MUCOLYTIC must not be administered to children under 2 years of age for respiratory problems because it can obstruct the bronchi and prevent normal breathing.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Talk to your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):
- upper abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea.
Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
- severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic, allergic skin rashes, fixed drug eruption);
- skin irritations and diseases (Steven-Johnson syndrome, bullous dermatitis, erythema multiforme;
toxic skin rash, skin rash) (in such cases, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy);
- difficulty breathing due to bronchial obstruction (bronchial obstruction) (in such cases, stop treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy);
- epigastric discomfort;
- vomit;
- gastrointestinal bleeding (In such cases, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy).
