Time Markers
Description
Medical device marked CE 0546.
Hemispherical radiopaque granules made of non-toxic polyethylene and barium sulfate.
The main purpose of Time Markers is to precisely follow the path of ingested food throughout the digestive tract, particularly the intestinal tract, without altering digestive and intestinal function in the slightest.
They are used for patients with chronic constipation and to evaluate intestinal transit (slow/normal).
How to use
1. Take 10 radiopaque cylinders every day for 10 days, always at the same time (preferably 8:00 pm) during meals, placing them in a wafer or mixing them into food (a spoonful of puree, yogurt, or grated apple). Do not suck or chew.
2. If indicated by the radiologist, present yourself at the radiology center on the morning of the 9th day (to take a spoonful of barium).
3. Perform a plain abdominal x-ray on day 11. On the x-ray, the radiologist should count the number of radiopaque markers and indicate how many remain: 1) in the right colon up to the mid-transverse colon, 2) in the left colon from the mid-transverse colon to the sigmoid colon, and 3) in the rectum.
4. Record the time of your last bowel movement (spontaneous or induced, with a laxative or enema, the day before taking the first 10 markers) and always record the time of any subsequent bowel movements. Show this sheet to the radiologist and then give it, along with the radiology report, to the doctor who prescribed the transit time test.
Warnings
- The diet should contain, in addition to the usual fruits and vegetables, a standard dose of indigestible waste (fiber). Normal lifestyle habits should be maintained as much as possible.
- It is preferable that the test be performed outside of the menstrual period.
- Absolutely no laxatives should be taken, suppositories should be introduced, enemas should be performed, or anal self-dilation should be performed until the X-ray examination has been completed.
- During the test period, the patient must not undergo any other radiological examinations using contrast medium.
- Do not take constipating medications (e.g., opiates such as codeine, morphine, diphenoxylate, antihistamines, anticholinergics). If possible, discontinue antidepressants and benzodiazepines.
However, inform your doctor if you are undergoing any drug therapy.
- For any questions and before interrupting the exam, contact the proctology clinic or the doctor who prescribed it.
- Disposable, single-patient use device. Do not reuse. Reuse may seriously compromise or worsen the patient's health due to the risk of infection for the patient and/or user and the compromised functionality and effectiveness of the device.
- Device to be sold only with a medical prescription.
- The doctor is required to verify that the devices do not remain in the intestine for more than 30 days.
- Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
- In the case of hiring non-self-sufficient elderly people or people with disabilities, the supervision of qualified personnel is essential.
- Safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 18 years of age.
- The test is not recommended for women with confirmed or suspected pregnancy, since it involves a radiological examination.
- Do not use if pouches have tears or rips.
- SAPI MED declines all responsibility for any damage caused by improper use.
The device should not be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to barium sulfate or polypropylene. If in doubt, consult your doctor. Do not use if the packaging is damaged.
Conservation
