Like other shampoos, NIZORAL also contains other ingredients that serve to clean the hair.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eNIZORAL shampoo is used against scalp infections caused by a fungus (yeast) called Malassezia. This fungus is found on everyone's skin, but can sometimes cause problems such as:\u003cbr\u003e • dandruff;\u003cbr\u003e • dry or greasy flaking of the skin, called seborrheic dermatitis.\u003cbr\u003e These conditions can cause itching.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eWhat you need to know before taking the medicine\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eDo not use NIZORAL\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e if you are allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eWarnings and precautions\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using NIZORAL if:\u003cbr\u003e • is elderly;\u003cbr\u003e • has liver problems;\u003cbr\u003e • has used medicines containing griseofulvin in the past, which are used to kill fungi.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cu\u003eBe careful with NIZORAL shampoo\u003c\/u\u003e\u003cbr\u003e • If you are using a lotion or cream on your scalp that contains a corticosteroid (for example betamethasone or hydrocortisone): \u003cbr\u003e- continue to apply a small amount of the lotion or cream that contains the steroid;\u003cbr\u003e - gradually reduce this quantity during the first 2 - 3 weeks of treatment with NIZORAL shampoo;\u003cbr\u003e - after 2-3 weeks use only NIZORAL. This will ensure that your symptoms do not worsen before NIZORAL begins to take effect.\u003cbr\u003e • Avoid contact with eyes. If this happens, rinse eyes with plenty of cold water.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Like other local (topical) medicines, especially in case of prolonged therapy, NIZORAL shampoo can cause redness and itching (sensitization phenomena). If this should occur, stop the treatment and contact your doctor.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eChildren and adolescents\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e NIZORAL shampoo can be used in adolescents over 12 years of age.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003ePossible side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eTell your doctor if you notice: while using NIZORAL shampoo:\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eUncommon side effects\u003c\/b\u003e (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)\u003cbr\u003e • redness, itching and burning due to irritation of the scalp;\u003cbr\u003e • burning or more or less sudden appearance of skin lesions, for example spotty or widespread changes in colour (rash) also due to inflammation of the hair follicles (folliculitis);\u003cbr\u003e • increased tear production;\u003cbr\u003e • alteration of hair structure, patchy hair loss (alopecia);\u003cbr\u003e • dry skin;\u003cbr\u003e • eye irritation;\u003cbr\u003e • acne, skin inflammation (dermatitis), peeling or skin infections with pus (pustules) or other skin disorders;\u003cbr\u003e • taste alterations;\u003cbr\u003e • allergic reactions including redness, itching and burning of the skin and\/or scalp, with possible swelling of the face, eyes, throat and difficulty breathing.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003eOther side effects\u003c\/b\u003e (the frequency of which has not been established)\u003cbr\u003e • urticaria;\u003cbr\u003e • hair color changes;\u003cbr\u003e • swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue and throat with difficulty breathing (angioedema).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eReporting of side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
