What it is and what it is used for
NTR is a nasal decongestant medicine for topical use; it is used to clear a blocked nose through local application.
NTR is used to relieve excessive secretion due to colds.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED.
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Severe heart disease and high blood pressure, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism. Do not use the product in children under 12 years.
Do not administer during and within two weeks of antidepressant drug therapy.
Do not administer during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It is advisable to consult your doctor if these disorders have already occurred in the past.
Warnings and precautions
It is recommended not to combine other vasoconstrictors such as nasal decongestants, oral or nasal, due to the risk of vasoconstriction (see paragraph WHICH MEDICINES OR FOODS CAN MODIFY THE EFFECT OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT).
Children are more sensitive to the systemic effects of sympathomimetic vasoconstrictors, therefore the product should be kept out of their reach since accidental ingestion may cause severe depression of the central nervous system with marked sedation (see paragraph WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE TAKEN AN EXCESSIVE DOSE OF THE MEDICINE).
Use with caution and at the doctor's discretion due to the risk of urinary retention in the elderly and in those with prostatic hypertrophy.
In patients with cardiovascular diseases and especially in hypertensive patients, the use of nasal decongestants must be subjected to the doctor's judgment from time to time.
Prolonged use of vasoconstrictors can alter the normal function of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, also inducing addiction to the drug: repeating the applications for a long period of time can be harmful.
The use, especially if prolonged, of products for topical use can give rise to sensitization phenomena and cause unwanted effects. In this case, immediately stop using the medicine and consult your doctor who, if necessary, will prescribe an appropriate therapy.
Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) contained as an active ingredient in NTR, especially when used for long periods, can cause swelling of the nasal mucosa. If such a reaction is suspected (continuously congested nose), another nasal medicinal product without BAC should be used, if possible. If such a nasal medicinal product without BAC is not available, another pharmaceutical form should be considered.
May cause bronchospasm.
The container of NTR drops is made of latex rubber. It can cause severe allergic reactions.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, NTR can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The drug may locally cause sensitization phenomena and rebound congestion of the mucous membranes. Rapid absorption of phenylephrine through inflamed mucous membranes may cause systemic effects consisting of arterial hypertension, reflex bradycardia, headache, and urination disorders.
Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
