Antihistamines work by preventing the effects of substances, such as histamine, that the body produces as part of an allergic reaction. Azelastine has been shown to reduce inflammation in the eye.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Pollival can be used to treat and prevent eye disorders that occur in association with hay fever (seasonal allergic conjunctivitis) in adults and children aged 4 years and over.\u003cbr\u003e Pollival can be used for eye disorders caused by allergy to substances, such as dust mites or animal hair (perennial allergic conjunctivitis), in adults and children aged 12 years and over.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003ePollival is not indicated for the treatment of eye infections.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eWhat you need to know before taking the medicine\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eDo not use Pollival:\u003c\/b\u003e \u003cbr\u003e- If you are allergic to azelastine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eWarnings and precautions\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Tell your doctor or pharmacist before using Pollival\u003cbr\u003e - If you are not sure whether your eye problems are caused by an allergy. Especially if only one eye is affected; if your vision is impaired; or if you have eye pain and no other symptoms in your nose, it may be an infection and not an allergy.\u003cbr\u003e - If the symptoms worsen or last for more than 48 hours without significant improvement despite the use of Pollival.\u003cbr\u003e - If you wear contact lenses.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eChildren and adolescents\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e For the treatment of eye problems caused by hay fever (seasonal allergic conjunctivitis):\u003cbr\u003e Do not give this medicine to children under 4 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. \u003cbr\u003eFor the treatment of eye disorders caused by an allergy (non-seasonal (perennial) allergic conjunctivitis):\u003cbr\u003e Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003ePossible side effects\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e These side effects include:\u003cbr\u003e Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): Mild irritation (burning, itching, watering) of the eyes after using Pollival. This should not last long.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): Bitter taste in the mouth. This goes away quickly especially if you drink a soft drink.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): Allergic reactions (such as skin rash and itching)\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003eReporting of side effects\u003c\/b\u003e \u003cbr\u003eIf you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
