What is it and what is it used for?
ACICLOVIR ALMUS PHARMA is a specific and selective antiviral drug with activity against herpes viruses including herpes simplex virus.
ACICLOVIR ALMUS PHARMA is used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the lips (recurrent herpes labialis) in adults and adolescents (over 12 years of age).
What you need to know before taking the medicine
When not to use:
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or to any of the excipients;
- if you are allergic to valaciclovir;
- children under 12 years of age.
Warnings and precautions
The cream should be applied only to herpes simplex lesions on the lips; application to mucous membranes, such as those of the mouth, eyes, and nose, is not recommended, as it may cause irritation.
Do not use the medicine to treat genital herpes.
Particular care should be taken to avoid accidental application to the eyes.
Use of the product, especially if prolonged, may give rise to sensitization phenomena. If this occurs, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor.
It is recommended that people with particularly severe forms of recurrent cold sores consult their doctor.
It is recommended that those who suffer from cold sores avoid transmitting the virus, especially when active lesions are present.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this one can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following convention has been used for the classification of undesirable effects in terms of frequency: very common ≥1/10, common ≥1/100 and <1/10, uncommon ≥1/1000 and <1/100, rare ≥1/10,000 and <1/1000, very rare <1/10,000.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders
Uncommon : transient burning or pain after application, moderate dryness, skin flaking and itching.
Rare : Erythema, contact dermatitis following application. Where sensitivity testing was conducted, the reactivity was shown to be related to the cream components rather than to aciclovir.
Immune system disorders
Very rare : immediate hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema and urticaria
Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects. If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist .
