What it is and what it is used for
BORIC ACID MARCO VITI contains boric acid which belongs to a group of medicines called antiseptics and disinfectants. These medicines work by slowing down or preventing the growth of bacteria.

This medicine is indicated in adults and children over 3 years of age for:
- disinfect minor burns and irritated or chapped areas of skin;
- reduce swelling caused by a build-up of blood (decongestant);
- treat an inflammatory skin disease (acne).

Contact your doctor if you notice no improvement or if you notice worsening of symptoms after a few days.


What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use BORIC ACID MARCO VITI
- if you are allergic to boric acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you have very extensive skin lesions.

This medicine should not be used in children under 3 years of age (See section “Children” ).


Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using BORIC ACID MARCO VITI.

This medicine should not be applied to the eyes.

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children as it can cause death if swallowed.

Avoid applying the product for prolonged periods of time and at excessive doses, on very large areas of skin or on wounds (damaged skin), as toxic effects may occur (See the paragraph “Possible side effects” ).

Children
The use of this medicine is contraindicated in children under 3 years of age.


Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Following inappropriate use of the medicine (systemic route) or application of boric acid on wounds and lesions and after prolonged use, the following undesirable effects may occur:

Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
- skin irritations (dermatitis, rashes), hair loss (alopecia);
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;
- loss of appetite (anorexia);
- menstrual cycle disorders;
- reduction in the number of red blood cells in the blood (anemia);
- weakness;
- confusion;
- convulsions.

Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
