NETTLE ROOT (URTICA DIOICA)

Urtica dioica is a very popular plant, both for being present in the most common places and for its many uses, both medicinal and non-medicinal. It is traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory and diuretic; while the use of root extracts in benign prostatic hypertrophy can be considered topical, especially for the interest that some pharmacological and clinical studies (relatively recent) have shown in its mechanisms of action; although the first observations on the activity of nettle root against BPH date back to Ruckle (1950), it is only in the last fifteen years that the drug and its preparations have been used for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH (Noske, 1994).

Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)

Evergreen shrub of mountainous regions; leaves are used as part of the plant. The meaning of the name refers to the fleshy fruits that bears are fond of. According to modern phytotherapy, it is the best anti-inflammatory of the urinary tract with a combined antiseptic action. Leaf extracts have been shown to inhibit the growth of numerous pathogenic microorganisms in vitro, including Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, Serratia marcescens and Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Streptococcus faecalis and Enterobacteraerogenes. Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis. After oral administration, arbutin is hydrolyzed by the intestinal flora with the release of hydroquinone, which, once absorbed, is eliminated in the urine. The disinfectant activity of bearberry is favored by the alkalinity of urine, which can be obtained with a diet rich in vegetables or with the ingestion of alkalinizing agents, such as sodium bicarbonate; it must be considered, however, that in the phase of urinary infection, urine already tends towards alkalinity.

MAUVE

Its name comes from Latin and means "soft", that is, capable of softening. Symbol of calm and sweetness, this plant was already used by the ancient Greeks. Hippocrates recommended it for its emollient and laxative properties, now scientifically proven and still appreciated today. One of the most common plants contains, in fact, mucilage useful against inflammatory states of the mucous membranes, against constipation and to absorb toxins; it contains vitamin complexes B1, B2, and C, carotene, potassium, tannins, flavonoids whose combination fights both intestinal and pulmonary viruses and bacteria. Furthermore, thanks to malvin and malvidin, it has demonstrated antispasmodic, diuretic effects and the ability to reduce capillary fragility.
