What is it and what is it for?
Diclofenac Teva is a pain-reducing medicine. It belongs to a group of medicines known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Diclofenac Teva is used for the short-term, symptomatic local treatment of acute pain associated with muscle strains, sprains, or bruises of the arms and legs following trauma, such as sports injuries, in adolescents aged 16 years and older and in adults.


What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Diclofenac Teva:
- if you are allergic to diclofenac, propylene glycol, butylhydroxytoluene or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if you are allergic to any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, e.g. acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen);
- if you have ever experienced asthma, hives, swelling of the skin and mucous membranes or swelling and irritation inside the nose after taking acetylsalicylic acid or any other NSAID;
- if you suffer from active gastric or duodenal ulcer;
- if she is in the last three months of pregnancy;
- in children or adolescents under 16 years of age;
- on damaged skin (e.g. skin abrasions, cuts, burns), infected or affected by exudative dermatitis or eczema.


Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Diclofenac Teva Diclofenac Teva:
- if you suffer or have suffered in the past from bronchial asthma or allergies, you may experience cramps in the bronchi (bronchospasm), which makes breathing difficult;
- if you notice a rash that develops after applying the medicated plaster. If this occurs, remove the medicated plaster immediately and discontinue treatment;
- if you suffer from kidney, heart or liver problems or if you suffer or have suffered in the past from gastric or intestinal ulcers, intestinal inflammation or a tendency to bleed.

Undesirable effects may be minimized by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration of treatment.

Important precautions:
- do not apply the medicated plaster to your eyes or mucous membranes and avoid contact with these parts;
- avoid exposing the treated area to direct sunlight or sunlamps after removing the medicated plaster, in order to reduce the risk of sensitization to light;
- do not use medicines containing diclofenac or other NSAIDs at the same time, either topically or systemically.

Elderly people
Elderly patients should use Diclofenac Teva with caution, as they are more susceptible to adverse effects.

Children and adolescents
Diclofenac Teva should not be used in children and adolescents under 16 years of age as there is no adequate experience available in this age group.


Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If the following symptoms appear, tell your doctor immediately and stop using the patch:
sudden itchy skin rash (hives); swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, mouth, or throat; difficulty breathing; low blood pressure or weakness.

The following side effects may occur:

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): local skin reactions (including allergic dermatitis and contact dermatitis) such as redness and burning sensation of the skin, itching, redness of the skin, rash sometimes with pustules or wheals.

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): bullous dermatitis, dry skin.

Very rare (may affect less than 1 in 10,000 people): hypersensitivity reactions (including urticaria), angioedema, anaphylactic-type reaction, asthma, sensitivity to light.

In patients using topical active substances belonging to the same class of medicinal products as diclofenac, isolated cases of generalized skin rash, hypersensitivity reactions such as swelling of the skin and mucous membranes, and anaphylactic-type reactions with acute disturbances of circulatory regulation and sensitivity to light have been reported.

Diclofenac is absorbed into the body through the skin very slowly compared to the concentration of the active ingredient in the blood measured after oral administration. Therefore, the likelihood of systemic side effects (such as gastrointestinal, liver, or kidney problems, or difficulty breathing) is very low.
However, particularly when the medicated plaster is used on large areas of skin and for long periods of time, the appearance of systemic side effects is possible.
