What it is and what it is used for
Lamisil contains the active substance terbinafine which belongs to a group of medicines called ‘broad-spectrum antifungals’. Lamisil is used to treat fungal infections and works on a wide range of fungi.
Lamisil is indicated for the treatment of:
• infections of the skin, nails, scalp etc. caused by fungi called “dermatophytes”
• skin infections caused by yeasts such as Candida
• Pityriasis versicolor, a superficial skin infection also known as “tinea versicolor.”
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Lamisil
• if you are allergic to terbinafine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
• if you are pregnant or breast-feeding (see section “Pregnancy and breast-feeding”)
• if the patient is a child under 12 years of age.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Lamisil.
Pay special attention:
• Do not swallow Lamisil, as it is for external use only.
• Do not apply the cream near the eyes, as it may be irritating. In case of contact, rinse the eyes thoroughly with running water.
Children
Lamisil should not be used in children under 12 years of age.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
• peeling of the skin
• itching
Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
• skin lesions
• crusts
• skin alteration
• spots on the skin
• erythema
• burning sensation
• pain
• pain and irritation on the application area
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)
• eye irritation
• dry skin
• skin reactions characterised e.g. by redness, itching and the appearance of blisters (contact dermatitis and eczema)
• worsening of the infection
Unknown side effects (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
• skin rash
• hypersensitivity
Allergic reactions occur rarely but in these cases you should stop treatment with Lamisil.
