Borage oil
Description
A dietary supplement based on organic borage oil that promotes joint function, cell membrane integrity and function, and skin trophism and function. It is preservative-free, GMO-free, and non-irradiated.
Borage oil is obtained by simply cold-pressing the plant's seeds, without the use of solvents. It is one of the richest plant sources of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential omega-6 fatty acid. Linoleic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids are also present, as well as alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid.
Taking GLA bypasses the first link in the chain and allows the biological process of producing prostaglandins, which play a role in inflammatory reactions, such as antihypertensives and platelet aggregation inhibitors, to proceed normally. Borage oil does not have hypotensive properties, but it interferes with the biochemical and cellular mechanisms that determine hypertension, namely the aldosterone-renin-angiotensin system.
Gamma-linolenic acid is an essential fatty acid essential for life itself, a major constituent of cells and subcellular organelles, contributing to the structure of the membranes that surround them. As a fatty acid, it is also essential for the regular metabolism of all lipid fractions (triglycerides and cholesterol). The ratio between fatty acids and cholesterol is crucial.
A deficiency in unsaturated fatty acids can cause brittle and dull hair, brittle nails, and dandruff, and can predispose to the onset of hay fever, bronchial asthma, and allergies in general. Skin disorders such as eczema, dermatitis, infantile eczema, non-allergic eczema, acne and dry skin, psoriasis, heart disease, and circulatory and kidney problems. The anti-aging effect of omega-6 essential fatty acids is achieved through the stimulation of suppressor T lymphocytes, which inhibit the proliferation of smooth muscle cells in the arterial wall, resulting in lipid alterations and the resulting cardiovascular disorders. Unsaturated fatty acids have been shown to be effective in preventing prostate disorders and nervous hyperactivity. They are essential for normal glandular function, especially of the adrenal and thyroid glands.
GLA administration reduces the proliferation and activation of intra-articular T lymphocytes, and a double-blind clinical trial has shown that borage oil is useful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, reducing joint stiffness and swelling.
For topical application, it is useful for dermatitis, wrinkles, stretch marks, and dry, chapped skin. GLA is an effective emollient, decongestant, and cell regulator; it has also been shown to help maintain the skin's natural hydration by counteracting transepidermal evaporation processes and consequently improving skin hydration and elasticity. It is also excellent as an anti-aging treatment.
