What it is and what it is used for
Solucis is a medicine that contains the active substance carbocisteine.
This medicine belongs to the mucolytics (medicines that help clear the airways of mucus) and mucoregulators (medicines that make mucus less sticky and thick).
Solucis is a fluidifier, i.e. a medicine used to make mucus more liquid in cases of acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a few days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take Solucis
• if you are allergic to carbocisteine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
• if you suffer from gastroduodenal ulcer (lesion of the stomach and a part of the small intestine called the “duodenum”);
if you are pregnant or breast-feeding (see “Pregnancy and breast-feeding”)
Solucis 50mg/ml syrup : do not give this medicine to children aged 5 years or younger.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Solucis.
The increase in phlegm that may be evident in the first few days of treatment rapidly reduces thereafter.
The product contains sucrose; please take this into account if you have diabetes or are on a low-calorie diet.
Caution is advised in elderly patients, asthmatic patients with a history of severe respiratory problems, debilitated patients, those with a history of gastroduodenal ulcers or those taking drugs known to cause gastrointestinal bleeding. You should stop treatment with carbocisteine if gastrointestinal bleeding occurs.
This medicine should not be used in combination with cough sedatives and/or medicines that inhibit bronchial secretion.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Dizziness and digestive phenomena such as stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, gastrointestinal bleeding may occur. In such cases, stop treatment and consult your doctor to establish an appropriate therapy.
In addition, anaphylactic reactions (severe allergic reactions), fixed erythema (redness or irritation of the skin that develops with each administration of a given medicine), skin irritations and diseases (Steven-Johnson syndrome, bullous dermatitis, erythema multiforme, toxic skin eruption), and skin rash (allergic skin reaction) may occur. Even in these cases, stop treatment and consult your doctor to establish an appropriate therapy.
